For the 1st couple of weeks throughout June and July we had exceptionally calm seas, beautiful sightings etc – and lately ROUGH seas with lost of sea spray on the trips – and chances of getting soaked!

Fortunately the sightings STILL remain excellent – we saw a SOUTHERN RIGHT Mother and Calf  3days ago, something that we have not seen in 10years of operating – the adult Southern Right , yes, but not the calves ! And we were fortunate to get a photograph!

So THAT was an absolute bonus! We’re so used to seeing mostly only the Humpback Whales, Minke’s , Bryde’s etc.

Another awesome sighting on the HIPPO/CROC tour yesterday was a PALM NUT VULTURE! – AND we were close enough to get a beautiful photograph!

uch if you have any questions.
****….clients that insist on taking their own camera equipment on the WHALE trips do so at their own risk, yesterday again we had a lady, AFTER we TOLD her NOT TO take her camera, come into the office and complain cause her camera got water damage – halooooooooooooo- out on the ocean is wet and splashes and and and and we cannot look after everybody’s electronic equipment.

THAT is why WE have invested in expensive waterproof cameras, video cameras, and a camera man on each and every trip to make the dvd of the entire trip which is R250-00 extra , and it’s available 1hour after their trip.

We have found over 10years that most of the time people can’t take their cameras out to take that memorable photograph, and then have no photos to show to friends and family. The R250-00 is worth the effort.

AND, the clients still dress as if they’re going to sunbathe, although we do issue each client with an additional waterproof raincoat, they have to dress WARM underneath, especially the early morning trips are freeeezing!

Ask them to bring along:

  • Packet of biscuits
  • Tissues
  • Towel
  • Bottle of water
  • Liquifruit
  • And if need be seasick tablet

We’re launching at Mapelane this year, which is beautiful with the Mapelane dune in the backround every  day when we get there, there is a little bay where the boats all have to launch this year as this is the only safe launch area, THAT is one reason why we had to increase our rates, as the traveling time and distance to Mapelane is so much longer on all the vehicles that accompany the Whale Boat.

AND I almost forgot to say, it’s ALSO cold on the HIPPO/CROC tour, please ask ALL clientele on all the tours to dress warm , doesn’t matter how conditions look in town and at the jetty, but if the boats depart it’s cold in the wind!

I can’t think of anything else now, but please keep in to
